Packing Fragile Items to Safely Transport Them When Moving
Posted on Oct 2, 2019 by Administrator
When people are preparing to move, one of their biggest concerns is how to pack fragile items so they can be safely transported. The closer it gets to moving day the more worried they become that their most fragile belongings may end up shattered before arriving at their new home. By preparing well in advance you can quell all these concerns.
Packing up and moving fragile items is no problem for our professional movers because we’ve had years of experience doing just this. We’ve dealt with all shapes and sizes of highly breakable things and have learned over the years the best ways to pack and move them, so they are fully protected the entire way.
The most important thing you can do when packing up fragile items is to make sure there is plenty of cushioning between them and any other items. The last thing you want is for anything fragile to bang against something else during the move. What is used and how much of it should be used for cushioning will depend on how large the item is.
Small Items
People seem to get more anxious about packing and moving fragile items that are smaller in size than larger items, perhaps because they could easily go missing in the piles of packing materials. However, these materials are what will protect these small fragile items during transit. First of all, you need strong moving boxes, new ones if possible. It makes no sense to skimp on your moving boxes when they’re supposed to protect your valuables. Old used boxes can easily break apart or tear, which puts everything in danger.
Before placing anything in boxes, each item must be carefully wrapped up in bubble wrap or packing paper. Anything that you normally store stacked, like dishes, should be individually wrapped to avoid friction. Your goal should not be to cram as much stuff as you can in each box because you’ll need plenty of scrunched up packing paper between items for cushioning. You do not want anything even touching the edges of a box. Leave plenty of room for cushioning. Once you’re ready to tape the box closed, shake it a little to make sure nothing moves.
Large Items
Some of your fragile items may be way too large to fit inside a box. Thankfully, we are used to dealing with these types of things. When the packing paper we normally use is just too small, we use padded moving blankets and wrap these larger fragile items up in those. Our blankets are plenty large enough to add layers of padding around antique pieces, mirrors and tables.
Full-Service Movers
To take all the worry about the safety of your fragile items during the move, you can ask your moving company to have their pros pack these items for you. They have years of experience packing all kinds of valuables, many of which are extremely fragile. They will come prepared with all the necessary packing materials to make sure they are securely packed so everything can be safely transported.
Your best bet is to hire a reputable full-service moving company who can help you pack and move anything you are the least bit worried about. You would be taking a big risk if you hired amateurs because they are unlikely to know how fragile items should be packed and moved. They can easily stumble and drop a box, become overly tired before the truck is even loaded, and have no energy left to unload it once they’ve reached the destination.
A full-service moving company has the personnel, supplies and equipment necessary to handle every aspect of your move, from packing and loading to transporting, unloading and unpacking. A team of experienced movers knows all the steps required for a safe successful move, so that all your belongings are fully protected, leaving you with nothing to worry about.
Quick and safe moving.
